Ukraine's Navy said that overnight on October 15 it struck the Borisoglebsk military airfield in Russia's Voronezh Oblast with Neptune missiles. According to the Navy, six Su-34M bombers were hit. This is stated in a Navy press service statement, Militarnyi reports.

The attack also destroyed ground equipment that supports aircraft operations. Repeated detonations and a fire were recorded at the airfield. The military said the results of the strike are still being verified.

The Su-34M is a modernized version of the Russian Su-34 frontline bomber. Aircraft of this type can use guided and high-explosive aerial bombs, as well as missiles of various types.

Russian aviation actively uses the Su-34 for strikes with guided aerial bombs on Ukrainian Defense Forces positions and on settlements near the front line. Such munitions allow the aircraft to attack targets without directly entering the engagement zone of some Ukrainian air defense systems.

The Borisoglebsk airfield is home to the 783rd Training Aviation Center, which operates Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft. Russian combat aviation has also used the airfield.
